Remember, your care team is here to support you.Knowing more about this surgery may also help you feel better.Lumpectomy is surgery to remove a lump, or tumor, from your breast. It is sometimes calledbreast-conserving surgery. That’s because much of your breast will be left intact.For this surgery, you are first given medicine, so you fall asleep and don’t feel pain.Your surgeon then makes a small cut near the lump in your breast. They remove the lump and anedge, or margin, of nearby healthy tissue.Your surgeon may also make another small cut in your armpit. They may do so to take out nearbylymph nodes. These nodes, the lump, and the margin of healthy tissue will be checked for cancer in alab.Once done, your surgeon closes all cuts and covers them with bandages.After the surgery, you can likely go home the same day. Follow any instructions to heal safely. Yoursurgeon will be in touch with the lab results. They can answer any questions you have.This program is for informational purposes only.
